FAIRYLAND is a Roller Coaster Ride of Laugh-Out-Loud Humor Seen Through a Microscope of Self-Examination and Family Confrontation

Los Angeles, CA (October 6, 2011) – John Papapavlos and Audra Rodgers will debut FAIRYLAND, their dark, twisted half-hour television comedy project about a dysfunctional Royal Family, in a live stage format at The Missing Piece Theatre in Burbank on October 13 – 15.  The show follows the trials and tribulations of an untraditional monarchy, Angeles, that rules the kingdom of Fairyland (think: Hollywood).  When Prince George, the monarchy’s first gay heir to the throne, accidentally gets hitched to his lower class best friend, Audrey, while on vacation in Las Vegas, the two friends are forced to make a very difficult decision that will dramatically impact their lives, as well as the future of the Royal Family of FAIRYLAND.

FAIRYLAND breaks down the barriers of what has defined traditional marriage including sexual orientation and preference, religion, class, and race.  Co-Creator Papapavlos, a gay man who grew up in a strict traditional Greek family, is currently living a harmonious life with his male partner and developed the script based on his own beliefs.

“It doesn’t matter if you are gay or straight, black or white, Christian, or Hindu, we all have our own unique path in life, and possess the power of personal choice,” said Papapavlos.  “Many married couples will admit that once honeymoon period is over, the future of the relationship is reliant on the spiritual love connection and being with someone with whom you can collaborate and grow, regardless of gender or sexual preference.”

Adds Co-Creator Rodgers, “People should be allowed to love and be with whomever they want, to help get them through their own personal journey through life. Life is hard enough with all its obstacles and challenges being thrown at you.  The person you love shouldn’t be an obstacle itself.”

Papapavlos and Rodgers bonded as adolescents over their similar experience of growing up in dysfunctional families with strict traditions and rules.  Rodgers, who was raised with a Mormon upbringing in Salt Lake City, UT explains, “When it comes down to it, every family has its own unwritten laws, rules, and obligations that may very well have a prison sentence attached to them.  When the doors are locked and the blinds are shut, every family is going through the same thing.  It’s okay to share your dirty laundry with the public and be able to find the humor in it and have a good laugh.  After all, laughter is the best medicine and the first step to healing.”

With the help of Casting Director Peter Pappas of Valko/Miller Casting (Two & A Half Men, Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly, Harry’s Law, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager), the Producers of FAIRYLAND have put together a stellar group of Hollywood actors to present their pilot in a live stage play format.  Blake Berris will play “Prince George” and Mara Marini “Audrey.”  Represented by ICM, Emmy-nominated actor Berris is best known for his role as Nick Fallon on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  He stars alongside Lukas Haas and Tom Sizemore in the upcoming METH HEAD and previously appeared in MINKOW with James Caan and Ving Rhames.  His other credits include NUMB3RS, THE STARTER WIFE, THE MENTALIST, BREAKING BAD, and PRIME SUSPECT.

Marini currently can be seen as the dating recruiter on the hit Bravo series MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER, and has previous appeared on the TV series PARKS & RECREATIONS, THE WHOLE TRUTH, and CHELSEA LATELY, as well as in the feature films ROCK & ROLL THE MOVIE, and HEAD OVER SPURS, among others.

In the role of “The Queen” is Tracy Scoggins, who got her big break playing opposite Charleton Heston and Barbara Stanwyck on DYNASTY and its spin-off THE COLBYS.  Scoggins is also known for her role as Captain Lochley of BABYLON: 5 and its spin-off THE CRUSADE, and has appeared on HIGHLANDER, DANTE’S COVE, NIP/TUCK, and NCIS, among others.

The supporting cast includes Ruth Williamson (Nip/TUCK), Candis Cayne (DIRTY SEXY MONEY), Warren Sweeney, Ed Brigadier, Lyn Michele Ross, Jackie Geary, Courtenay Taylor, Brian Rodak, and Steven James Caldwell.
